President Traian Băsescu accuses that a forged militia action was performed in the case file for which his brother has been in jail over the past four months.
The head of state argues that he has not spoken with Mircea Basescu since the scandal broke out and he will not be involved in this case until his mandate ends, and yet he criticizes the prosecutors indictment against his brother.
Based on this indictment, several courts have refused to release Mircea Basescu from jail, although he tried 18 times to get out.
"I have not understood from the indictment the day the money was given , the day the second installment was given, the day the money was paid back ... And I could not understand if that money was money that he gave back or taking it. Has it ever appeared to you like it was a militia forged action? Let me finish my mandate and I will say a whole lot more ", the president said.
The President’s brother is accused that, from 20 February 2011 - 22 February 2012, he allegedly received 250,000 euros from the Bercea Mondial’s son, Florin Anghel through Marian Căpăţână to intervene with the judges so they would rule a favorable solution in Sandu Anghel trial for attempted murder.
Investigators say that in exchange for money, Mircea Basescu had promised to intervene to facilitate a more favorable sentence for Bercea Mondial.
On June 20, the president's brother, Mircea Băsescu, was taken into custody after the Magistrates Court ruled his detention for 30 days, ruling that his lawyer challenged before the Court of Appeal.
