The money laundry case file of Traian Băsescu was dismissed three days before he became the president, despite the fact that the reason invoked for the file’s classification was presidential immunity.

"The world of justice" websites said that Traian Basescu had taken his oath on December 20, 2004, but his file was dismissed on December 17.

The institution was managed at the time by Iulian Dragomir, the judge who became famous for being the "magistrate with his godfather in his soul".

Recently, the National Office for Prevention and Control of Money Laundering reopen the money laundering case of Traian Basescu on the real estate transactions he made with Costel Casuneanu. The file had been dismissed on 17 December 2004 on the grounds that Traian Basescu enjoyed immunity, after becoming president of Romania.

Luju.ro writes that at the time Traian Basescu was not president of Romania. Basescu won the elections for president of Romania, held in two rounds on November 28, 2004 and December 12, 2004.

Elections were subsequently validated by the Constitutional Court on December 16, 2004 Later, in December 20, 2004, in a joint session of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate the CCR presented the validation of the decision about the elected president of Romania. At that time, Traian Basescu was sworn in before the Parliament. The same day of December 20, 2004, President of the Senate, Nicolae Vacaroiu, read out the statement to Parliament on the oath by the president.

Even Traian Basescu acknowledges in his CV that he became president of Romania on 20 December 2004. But the head of the Office for Prevention of Money Laundering, Iulian Dragomir ruled that Basescu enjoyed presidential immunity since the mandate of Ion Iliescu.

So three days before Basescu actually came into his rights, he dismissed the case.

Two years later, the same Iulian Dragomir who become known as "the magistrate with the godfather in his soul" decided to open another file that had been dismissed for 5 years. It's about the biggest enemy of Traian Basescu at the time, Adrian Nastase. Even if he reopen the file on account of a suspected money laundering, the justice acquitted the former prime minister. For his merits, Iulian Dragomir was romoted as a judge at the High Court of Cassation and Justice, in 2007 by Monica Macovei.
