President Klaus Iohannis has not yet accepted the proposal of Gabriel Oprea as interim head of the Government, because the head of state wants to receive medical documents certifying the temporary incapacity of Prime Minister Victor Ponta to perform his duties, according to official sources.

"Currently, Romania has got a legal prime minister “, the quoted sources stated Monday.

Deputy Prime Minister Gabriel Oprea, proposed by PM Victor Ponta, currently in Turkey , to take over the prime minister position was Monday at the Presidential Palace where he had a meeting of approximately 30 minutes with president Klaus Iohannis.

Victor Ponta made it clear that the decision to stay in Turkey for rehabilitation after surgical procedure on his left knee, has nothing to do with his legal situation of being investigated in the criminal case.

The Prime Minister argues that his lawyer submitted to DNA as evidence all the medical records and that immediately after his return in the country he is prepared to appear before investigators if requested to do so.

As for Gabriel Oprea's appointment as a replacement, Prime Minister claims that it is a natural variant in this case.
