The decision was taken after analyzing the answers given by the oil company to the issues raised by the population during the public debate a week ago in the villages Bacesti, Pungeşti and Găgeşti.
"After going though the procedure and analyzing the documents submitted by the projects holder, we came to the conclusion that they observe the requirements in force related to the environment protection. The projects for the environment approval of the three locations where the exploration drilling wells of the geophysical structure of the underground are to be placed, can be found on the APM Vaslui website in case there should be any objective observations to be published’, the APM Vaslui director, Madalina Nistor stated Thursday.
Based on the environment agreements given by APM Vaslui and of other documents required when issuing permits, the company Chevron Romania could obtain building permit from the County Council Vaslui for the exploration wells to identify potential shale gas deposits.
Vaslui County Council issued in December and January, urbanism certificates for the three areas of Vaslui county where the American company Chevron wants to make prospecting drilling for the possible exploitation of shale gas. Valid for one year, the urbanism certificates were issued for unincorporated areas between 35,000 and 73,400 square meters of land in the towns Păltiniş (Bacesti), popen (Găgeşti) and Siliştea (Pungeşti)
Public debates on the environmental report regarding the location of shale gas exploration wells in Vaslui areas were held in early July at Bacesti and Pungeşti, where discussions were calm, while some locals in Găgeşti had objections, although they had not read the document.
Environment Minister Rovana Plumb said, on July 9, that there was "no risk" to the environment and human health in the case of shale gas exploration and the "positions" expressed in public debates by the citizens of Vaslui were "at the rate of 99 9% related to shale gas exploitation, not exploration.
