The wonderful landscape from the Danube Delta will become history in a very short time. At least that is what Liviu Giosan states, a Romanian researcher from one of the leading institutes in the world. More specifically, the Delta land will be swallowed by the Black Sea water because It lies at a very low level above the sea. This level will be reached in about 100 years.
Romania researchers say instead that doomsday scenario may occur, but not so fast. Neither the authorities take too seriously Liviu Giosan statements.
Tourism employers believe that Delta is safe for now and that the dangers come from acute lack of funding and not from nature.
Liviu Giosan has been a researcher at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute since 2007 and has conducted so far several studies on the Black Sea and the Danube Delta.
