Iordache was reconvened at the hearing on Saturday morning. Following the hearings, anti-corruption prosecutors decided to issue a detention order of 24 hours for the businessman.
Nelu Iordache was taken into custody and is to appear in front of a judge of the Court of Bucharest on Sunday. The detention order expires on December 2nd, at 18:00.
This week, prosecutors raided two companies owned by Nelu Iordache, checking all documents and computers.
The DNA prosecutors’ investigations started at the request of the European Anti-Fraud Office after many companies have complained that they had not received their money from Nelu Iordache. Businessman Mircea Rotaru is one of the many who has large sums of money to recover. He has rented Iordache equipment for the construction of section 1 of the Arad-Nadlac highway.
Most of the people working for the Arad-Nadlac highway were sent home without payment while the construction was abandoned.
Arad-Nadlac highway is not the only abandoned site.
Over 70% of the first section of Arad-Nadlac highway should have been ready by now. Nelu Iordache’s company did only 20% of the work. The second section should be completed in April 2013.
