President signs major reshuffle of ambassadors

 President Klaus Iohannis signed this week several ambassador appointments, giving his seal of approval to journalist and writer Emil Hurezeanu's nomination as Ambassador of Romania to Germany, and to historian, essayist and politician Adrian Cioroianu taking over as Romania's Ambassador and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, the Presidential Administration announced, Agerpres reports.

In the same major diplomacy reshuffle move, as already announced, President Klaus Iohannis approved the nomination of former Romanian Intelligence Service director George Maior as Ambassador to the United States.

Mihnea Motoc was appointed Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; Bogdan Mazuru — Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Austria; Luminita Odobescu — Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Romania to the European Union; and Ion Jinga — Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Office.

Adrian Cosmin Vierita was appointed Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva; Carmen Liliana Podgorean — Ambassador to the Republic of Argentina and the Republic of Paraguay; Iulian Buga — Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden; Mihai Constantin Coman — Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Constantin Mihail Grigorie — Ambassador to the Czech Republic; Viorel Mosanu — Ambassador to Belarus; Adrian Davidoiu — Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway.

In related procedures, the President of Romania approved the recall of the diplomats who had served so far in the aforementioned positions.
President Iohannis approved the ambassador appointment and recall proposals based on the provisions of the Constitution and following consultations with the Premier and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
