The campaign against immigrants coming from Romania and Bulgaria to the UK resembles that of Enoch Powell, a conservative who became famous in 1968 by a speech he delivered entitled "rivers of blood" denouncing the "economic burden of immigration", Archbishop Desmond Tutu warns.

The Archbishop, a well-known human rights activist, said, quoted by the British newspaper The Times, that he is "very concerned" because "we hear the same speech that I’ve heard from Enoch Powell". He thus answered the question on what he thought about lifting restrictions on Romania and Bulgaria as of 1 January, according to Huffingtonpost.uk.

The Archbishop made this statement under the framework where according to a survey, almost half of Britons want that Romanians and Bulgarians should have no right to work in their country next year, and over half believes that immigration has a negative effect on Great Britain . The debate before their coming is very strong, UKIP, a British xenophobic party being accused of encouraging the "fear " that a large number of potential immigrants might come to the UK.
