Romulus Nicolae Mailat (pictured), the Romanian sentenced to life imprisonment for rape and murder in Italy, may continue the execution of his  penalty in a prison in Romania. According to a judgment of the Alba Iulia Court of Appeal given at the end of last year, the recognition and enforcement of the sentence in Romania was ordered. The Alba Iulia Court of Appeal decision is to be conveyed  in Italy at the current detention place and communicated to  Mailat, who has the right to appeal within 10 days of receipt of the decision.

Also the Prosecutor may appeal against the decision to transfer, all within 10 days since the judgment was pronounced.
Romulus Nicolae Mailat was sentenced to life imprisonment after being charged by Italian prosecutors that on 30 October 2007 in the Tor di Quinto  area in Rome, he robbed and raped Italian woman  Giovanna Reggiani, facts that have led to the death of the victim.
