He said that he wished that President Traian Basescu would defend the Romanians in the European Council or other European bodies, but appreciated that the President did not have, however, the authority and credibility to carry out such interventions
"Obviously, I wish that Mr. Basescu would defend the Romanians in the European Council, where he goes. He does not do it because he does not have the authority and credibility to do so. He is too indebted to be able to raise his voice in defense of Romanians "said the Premier.
Victor Ponta said that Romania showed and would further demonstrate that these populist overtones in Europe are unwarranted and represent an attack against the fundamental values of the European Union.
"Or, this is what we have done calmly, rationally and I believe that this will continue to happen. It is important that all restrictions have been lifted and no one will reintroduce them" Ponta said.
The press reported that the Chairman of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs, Elmar Brok, said recently that immigrants who come to Germany just for social welfare should be quickly sent home to their countries of origin.
Elmar Brok wants Romanian immigrants to be fingerprinted. He claims that people who come to Germany in order to ask for emergency welfare must be sent back to their country of origin.
