„After last year’s victories, after the fact that both leaders have shared the outcomes of this victory and considering the power that the USL has go and which it won’t lose until next year, it may be that until 2016 people might grow dissatisfied. It is very likely, but until next year I believe that Mr. Antonescu, the USL candidate, has the first chance (t the presidential elections of 2014 – r.n). I am no looking too much in the other’s yard, but if he were to run against Mr. Boc, Mr. Udrea or Mr. Ungureanu (...), he can go on holiday quite at peace”, prime minister Ponta stated for B1 TV, according to Agerpress.
Ponta excluded his candidacy for the presidential elections of 2014, but not for the further future.
„Do not take this statement out in 2019 or 2024! In 2014, definitely not. (...) . I would not be a politician, If I said no, never, I would never run for the presidency. It is still a long while until then. In 2024, it seems a lot, I will be 52 years old. In my opinion, a president (...) who should calm the country, moderate it, should be a president of over 50”, he stated, adding that a head of state had the duty to be dignified and defend his country.
The premier emphasized that the PSD would not support Sorin Oprescu, should he run for the presidential elections.
Ponta added that there was an agreement signed within the USL in the sense of supporting Mr. Antonescu for the presidency elections of 2014.
